It is not enough to value diversity and inclusion, we must practice it.
Sequel Youth & Family Services is committed to creating and maintaining a workplace in which all employees have an opportunity to participate and contribute to the success of the business. We value our employees for their skills, experience, and unique perspectives. This commitment is embodied in company policy and the way we do business at SYFS and is an important principle of sound business management. Inclusion is not an exception! It is an expectation!
Diversity and Inclusion aren’t just words at Sequel. We understand that in order for all of our team members to do their best work and for the company to achieve its mission, everyone must feel valued, respected, and a sense of belonging. To us, this means focusing on creating an environment that not only values diversity and inclusion, but practices it.
Diversity and inclusion in the workplace improve understanding of those we work with, provides multiple perspectives on problem solving, boosts employee morale and it is the right thing to do!
Building a truly diverse and inclusive company requires that we are both thoughtful and strategic. At Sequel, we focus on what is F.A.I.R.:
- Feedback/communication promotes understanding, reduces conflict, and enhances productivity. Transparency is a core attribute of our teams across the organization, and we promote transparency and curiosity through our interactions each day. We encourage candid discussions and ensure a safe space is created to understand and overcome our own biases because that’s when real change happens.
- Assist others to become culturally competent; support one another – we are all in this together! We cannot achieve any of our goals alone, diversity and inclusion included. In order to achieve the standard we expect, we must assist and support one another to reach our highest potential.
- Inclusion should be practiced; empower employees to fully perform and participate in pursuit of Sequel’s mission. Our mission is a team effort. We need each team members, at each level of the organization, to participate and be actively involved. Inclusion is not an option, it is a requirement for success.
- Respect is non-negotiable; honor the social contract. At Sequel, respect is an absolutely expectation. We respect our co-workers, our clients, and our communities. We understand that each person brings a different perspective and background to the table, and we welcome and respect this uniqueness.
Our goal is to teach employees communication and conflict resolution techniques to be used in the framework of working with a culturally diverse population, whose members may solve problems in very different ways. The HR team fosters a supportive and respectful work environment where all voices are heard. This requires flexibility and collaboration across all levels throughout our organization. HR is committed to promoting education and training resources to give our employees the tools necessary for their continued success.
