Camelot for Kids System of Care Division Joins Sequel March 4th, 2011
Sequel Youth and Family Services is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Camelot for Kids System of Care Division ("Camelot"). Camelot is one of the nation's leading providers of residential and community-based programs for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder ("ASD") or who are severely emotionally disturbed ("SED"). Camelot operates 10 programs in six different states with over 700 staff members. Customers from a total of 16 states refer clients to the eight residential programs, containing about 400 beds, and the two community-based programs.
Autism is the fastest growing developmental diagnosis in the United States. The number of children identified with autism is increasing at a rate of about 20% per year; in 2009 one in every 110 children was diagnosed with ASD. As such, bringing Camelot into the Sequel family adds a significant and potentially high-growth service segment to our programming portfolio.
In addition, the Camelot programs operate in states in which Sequel currently does not have programs. So, the geographic diversification is a strategic complement to the existing Sequel footprint — and provides a wonderful opportunity for cross-pollination of service lines.
And finally, the Camelot management team — under the leadership of Ed Irby – comes to us with the acquisition, adding significant depth, experience, and industry expertise to the already-strong Sequel leadership team. Ed, who has over 30 years of experience and is recognized as a national leader in our industry, has been appointed as Sequel's President and Chief Operating Officer.
Sequel, including Camelot, now operates 31 programs in 16 states with over 2,000 staff members. We are changing the lives of over 3,000 children, adolescents and their families every day. We love what we do, and are passionate about doing it with excellence.
