Sequel Youth and Family Services Overview
Sequel Youth and Family Services (SYFS) was founded in 1999 to manage Clarinda Academy in Clarinda, Iowa, at the request of the Clarinda Youth Corporation. The following year, we entered into a management contract with the Woodward Youth Corporation to operate the Woodward Academy, also in Iowa. Normative Services Academy, located in Sheridan, Wyoming, followed in 2003, as the NSI Board sought a smooth transition from the school’s retiring founding principals to a manager that shared their core values and operating philosophy. In 2004, we began managing Mingus Mountain Academy (MMA), located in Prescott Valley, Arizona, as a result of a search by its Board for a manager to continue MMA’s history of serving adolescent females in the tradition of its founders. And in 2007 we opened and began to operate Lakeside Academy, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, under contract with the Lakeside for Children Board.
In July 2006, we launched SequelCare, our Community-Based Services (CBS) division. SequelCare of Iowa was established in the summer of 2006 and serves youth and families across the state of Iowa. In 2007, we purchased a CBS provider located in Pinellas Park, Florida, and changed the name to SequelCare of Florida. SequelCare of Florida provides a broad continuum of services in the Tampa Bay area. In 2008, we purchased a CBS provider in Prescott, Arizona, and, under the name of SequelCare of Arizona, now operate a continuum of services in Central and Northern Arizona.
Most recently, in 2009, we acquired Three Springs, Inc. — one of the nation’s leading providers of specialized behavioral health services for adolescents. Over the years, Three Springs developed particular expertise in intensive treatment services for troubled youth referred by public customers as well as nationally recognized therapeutic programming for adolescents from private families.
This merger extends Sequel’s geographic footprint, with the combined entity operating more than 20 programs nationwide and serving in excess of 2,000 adolescents with more than 1,300 staff members. Our continuum of care now includes residential and community-based programs that serve public customers as well as private educational and therapeutic programming. The combination of Sequel and Three Springs positions us as a truly national, full-service provider of youth and family services.
We are proud of all of our programs, and believe that they are among the elite behavioral health programs for troubled and at-risk youth in the country. We’d be delighted to chat with you to see how we can apply our passion and expertise to your particular situation.
